Joshua Kevin Hohn, 46, of Sioux Falls, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, surrounded by his family at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service celebrating Josh’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. His family will be present to greet friends for a memorial visitation from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday, July 20, with a time of memory sharing at 6:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Instead of formal attire, wear something that represents your connection with Josh to both services. Josh was born Dec. 26, 1979 in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Kevin and Guyla (Kindt) Hohn. He attended elementary school in Sioux Falls, where he developed a love for BMX racing and other sports such as softball, basketball, football, and track. In eighth grade, the family moved to Wakefield, Neb., where he continued his love of sports and graduated from high school in 1998. Following high school, Josh continued his education at the University of South Dakota and then the University of Sioux Falls before graduating from Southeast Technical College with his degree in Nuclear Medicine.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca Ronning on Sept. 25, 2004 at Roseni Lutheran Church in Beresford, S.D. The couple lived in Columbus, Georgia and Omaha, Neb., where he worked in Pediatric Nuclear Medicine. In 2007, Josh and Becca made their home in Sioux Falls, and were blessed with the birth of two children, Noah and Molly.
Josh had an entrepreneurial spirit owning a variety of businesses from J&T Sanitation to Hohn/Palmer Construction. He had a wonderful mind and could accomplish anything he set out to do. In college, he developed a love of helping children by working for many years as a counselor at Camp Foster in Okoboji and Leif Ericson. As his children grew, Josh loved coaching Noah’s baseball teams and Molly’s softball teams.
He also had a creative and artistic side, with a great sense of humor. He was a gifted artist and musician, who played guitar, piano, saxophone, and cow bell! He enjoyed traveling with his family (and his trusted yellow backpack at his side). He also enjoyed cooking and baking. Above all, he loved his family and his community. Josh would always take time out of his day to help anyone in need. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, nephew, coach, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Becca Hohn; two children, Noah and Molly Hohn; parents, Kevin and Guyla Hohn; sister, Tanya (Robert) Palmer; Becca’s parents, Melvin and Doreen Ronning of Alcester; two sisters-in-law, Lesley (John) Kunz and Melanie (Carlen) Ronning of Studio City, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and Josh’s three canine-companions, Phoebe, Reese and Willie.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilfred and Lillian Hohn; Don Kindt, and Donna and LaVern Steiger.
In lieu of flowers, support can be made for either Josh Hohn’s “We Are” Softball Scholarship or Future Financial & College support for Noah and Molly Hohn.
