Norma D. Doppenberg, 91

Norma D. Doppenberg, 91, of Brandon, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, June 8, 2026. Her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon. Interment will be in the Brandon Lutheran Cemetery, Brandon. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the George Boom Funeral Home - Brandon Valley Chapel, with her family present.

In lieu of flowers, the Doppenberg family request memorials be directed to Brandon Lutheran Cemetery Memorial to maintain the cemetery grounds that were donated by Norma’s grandfather, George Christensen, in 1871.

Norma Delores Doppenberg was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Feb. 19, 1935 to Andrew Christensen and Palma (Johnson) Christensen. Norma grew up on the family homestead with no indoor plumbing near Brandon. She was the oldest of two children. She attended grade school in Brandon and graduated from high school at Beresford, S.D.

On Dec. 12, 1953, she married Gerrit Doppenberg in Brandon. From this union, they were blessed with six children ,Barb Quick, Colville, Wash., Steve (Lynn) Doppenberg, Brandon, Kenny Doppenberg, Pierre, Carol Smith, Brandon, Laurie (Brian) Gustafson, Pierre, and Tim (Kathy) Doppenberg, Brandon.

Norma was a domestic engineer that was busy keeping her six children and the neighborhood kids in line, she was a mom to many! She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, bowling, dancing, playing cards and traveling. She was also active at Brandon Lutheran Church with making quilts, making lefse and making “Norma’s best bean soup” kits for many years. She treasured the many trips to Holland to visit Gerrit’s home country and family members. She was very famous for her one-liners such as: “They must be out of blinker fluid!” “You look familiar, do I look like someone you should know?” and “I’m glad you got to see me” just to say a few!

Grateful for sharing her life are her children; seven grandchildren, Paul (Kari) Quick, Jennifer (Tim) Klein, Ben (Jennifer) Quick, Sondra Doppenberg, Derek (Katlyn) Gustafson, Donielle Gustafson, and Andy (Kathleen) Doppenberg; 17 great-grandchildren, Elliot Quick, Nolan Quick, Annily Quick, Honor Quick, Hudson Klein, Easton Klein, Jessica Quick, Avah Doppenberg, Sophia Schmidt, Isaiah Schmidt, Esther Doppenberg, Addy Gustafson, Annabelle Gustafson, Charlotte Gustafson, Skyler Wuebben, Wyatt Wuebben, Ophelia Doppenberg; her sister Lu Narum; and other relatives and friends.

Norma was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Gerrit, her daughter Barb, her son Tim, and her son-in-law Rollie Smith.
