Brandon business endeavors results in funds for BVFD

Two Brandon businesses conducted two separate events to raise funds to benefit the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department.
A “car smash” at the Double D Saloon’s Sept. 12 street dance generated $420 for the volunteer fire fighters.
Organized by Jason Albertson, co-owner of the Double D, sold “swings” at a vehicle using a sledgehammer to hit/damage the vehicle. The vehicle was supplied by Nordstrom’s Automotive The windshield and other windows were “fair game”, with “select” prices to take aim at.
“Many of the individuals that participated remarked how fun it was,” said BVFD Chief Robert Dykstra.
And for the second consecutive year, Jayme Smid, owner/manager of Anytime Fitness staged “Climb for a Cause.” Anytime Fitness members and non-members were invited to “purchase” time on the stair-climber, with all of the funds raised being directed to the BVFD.
This event is in remembrance and in honor of those responders that lost their lives on 9/11, specifically those individuals in the stairwells of the Twin Towers.
This year’s event was extended in an effort to accommodate COVID concerns, as well as allow more people the opportunity to participate. Participants and Anytime Fitness raised $450 from its 2020 “Climb for a Cause” event.
Dykstra said the BVFD “greatly appreciates support received from the Brandon community and surrounding area. This support is not only from the citizens, but as these two recent fundraisers illustrate, is also present from the business community as well,” he said.
On tap for Sunday, Oct. 4 is the BVFD’s annual Pancake Breakfast, which will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire hall. Dykstra said tables will be set up to allow proper distancing. In addition, this year the BVFD has implemented a “drive-through” option to accommodate those who do not want to dine in at the fire station.
