Lynx undefeated in duals

BV hosts Worthington in spotlight dual Thursday

 

Four Lynx grapplers wrestled their way to first-place finishes at Saturday’s Warrior Invite, which was hosted by Sioux Falls Washington. 

Isaac Klinkhammer (120 pounds), Kobi Terpstra (138), Creighton Klinkhammer (145) and Damien Schunke (152) were all crowned champions of their respective weight classes at the eight-team Dec. 16 meet. 

As a team, Brandon Valley fell short of first place by a mere 2.5 points.

“I was pleased with the aggressive wrestling we demonstrated throughout the day. Many of our guys did an incredible job earning bonus points (wins by fall, tech fall, or major decision) throughout the day,” said BV coach Derek Outland.   

Nearly every other Lynx also placed in their respective weight class: Jack Smith (132), second; Jorey Sorenson (160), Nate Ihnen (182) and Sam Lembcke (195), third; Teygan Harstad, Jacob Wolfe, Carson Askdal, Tate Johnson, Zach Luke and Isaac Bullis Rodriguez, fourth; and Kyle Heidbrink, fifth. 

The Lynx also remain unscathed in duals, improving their season record to 5-0 following road victories over O’Gorman and Lincoln Dec. 12. The Lynx rallied to beat the Patriots 75-5 and edged the Knights 60-10. 

Outland said the Lynx had a strong showing at Tuesday’s duals.

“We were able to win most of those matchups. It was great to see the team rally around their teammates who had those big matchups,” he said. 

Solid wins were posted by Caleb Klatt against Mentzer (SFL), Jorey Sorenson against Treadway (SFL), Kobi Terpstra against Hight (O’G) and Lembcke against Binstock (O’G).

The Lynx host their first home meet of the season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, against Worthington, Minn.  

“This is a spotlight dual – a pretty cool atmosphere for wrestling – so we’re hoping for a great crowd,” Outland said.
