BVHA Puck-n-Pond Tournament

Eighteen Mini-Mite (6U) and Mite (8U) hockey teams – featuring 180 youth hockey players ranging in age from 3-8) took part in the inaugural tournament at the McHardy Park Ice Rink Saturday and Sunday. Participating teams came from Luverne and Worthington, Minn., Sioux Falls and Huron, Okoboji, Iowa, and Brandon Valley. Tournament director Mallory Zell said score is not kept at this level of play. “We focus more on the kids just having fun and learning the basics-fundamentals of hockey,” she said. “It was an amazing weekend, and we could not have asked for a better first home ice tournament.” The BV Hockey Association celebrates the new refrigerated sheet of ice and its various amenities from 5-7 p.m. Sunday during the Flannel and Frost Festival and ribbon cutting.
