Rolling out the new rink

Volunteers with the Brandon Valley Hockey Association teamed up to improve the amenities at the McHardy Park hockey rink last week. They poured this sidewalk, which was previously a dirt walkway to the ice. Pictured are (from left) Tom Cauwels, Brian Reinwald, Clark Meyer, Tom Gruenig, Bryan Seaver, Lance Zell and Tom Allison. Cauwels said the new refrigerated ice system and hockey rink should be in place within the next 45 days. The former hockey rink becomes the new public rink and will also be utilized by the local hockey group. “We hope to be skating mid- to late-October, and there should be something (rink construction) going on here every day, weather permitting,” Seaver said.
