Community Spirit Award nominations due Aug. 15
Got spirit, community spirit, that is, or know of someone who defines “community spirit”? Nominate that person for the Brandon Community Foundation’s Community Spirit Award. 
Forms are at brandoncf.org and will be accepted through Aug. 15. Nominees must live in the school district and have made a positive community impact. 
The award will be presented at the BCF’s Oak & Vine fundraiser Oct. 27. 
 
Pillow cleaning Aug. 22
Brandon Lutheran Church will provide pillow cleaning 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22. 
All types of bed pillows (feather, foam, down, fiver fill, etc.) will be cleaned or renovated in one day.

BCF accepting grants
The Brandon Community Foundation is accepting grant applications through Sept. 29. Grants are awarded to area 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that strive to improve the quality of life for all ages in the arts, recreation, education, health and public safety.

Brandon library closed for improvements
The Brandon Community Library remains  closed through Sunday, Aug. 20 for new carpet installation.
Library holds are available at the entrance 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There may be times when the library is unable to access holds. Call (605) 582-2390 with questions.
 
BVHS schedule change days set
Schedule change days for Brandon Valley High School freshmen and sophomores are set. Juniors and seniors may make an appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, and sophomores and freshmen may reserve a time from 8:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15.
To schedule an appointment, call 582-3211 to sign up. Students will need a Schedule Change Form signed by a parent/guardian. 
 
Monthly needs at the BAFP
This month’s needs at the Brandon Area Food Pantry include jelly/jam (strawberry/grape), snack pudding, Knorr noodles and rice dishes, brownie mix, cake mix, frosting, Styrofoam/paper plates, bodywash. 
The BAFP continues to accept donations to help those in need. Before donating, please check the expiration date, as expired foods cannot be distributed. Monetary donations are always appreciated.
The BAFP is located at 406 Main Ave., and is open from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. To donate or to learn more, call 582-7001.
 
Lions Club seeks cans
The Brandon Lions Club welcomes donations of aluminum cans, which help fund requests for vision and hearing impairment needs.
Aluminum cans may be dropped off at the Lions Club shed in the Sunshine Foods parking lot.
