Scott Allen Ahlers, 34, of Renner, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 as the result of an automobile accident on I-90, west of Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022 at First Christian Reformed Church, 2901 E. 26th St., Sioux Falls. His family will be present for visitation from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls.

Scott Allen Ahlers was born on Jan. 6, 1988 in Brookings, S.D., to Harold and Shelly (Hauge) Ahlers. He was raised in Flandreau, S,D. At the age of four, his family made their home in Brandon, and then Valley Springs. It was in Brandon that Scott received his education graduating from Brandon Valley High School in 2006. Scott found the love of his life when he was only 16 years old, Rachel Van Veldhuizen, a fellow marching band member. The couple dated through high school and were united in marriage on June 7, 2008 in Brandon. Scott and Rachel were blessed with four children, Carlie, Walter, Eli and John-Paul “JP”.

Scott developed a love of working with heavy machinery as a young boy. Scott had the ability to fix about anything and had an impeccable work ethic, even operating his own lawn mowing business in elementary school. This led him to working in the construction industry first with his father-in-law’s company, Cornerstone Poured Foundations, in 2007. In 2019, he became a co-owner and operator of Soo Sanitary Excavating.

He had a huge heart and loved helping anyone in need. Scott took pride in his community by becoming a volunteer fire fighter with Renner Fire and Rescue. He also served on their board of directors.

Scott had a passion for being outdoors, from riding dirt bikes, snowmobiles, water skiing, camping in Yankton, hunting to being a member of the Cloud 9 Hot Air Balloon Crew. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially teaching his children how to mountain bike this last year. Scott was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Rachel Ahlers, Renner; four children, Carlie, Walter, Eli and John-Paul “JP” Ahlers; his parents, Harold and Shelly Ahlers, Renner; parents-in-law, Kevin and Fawn Van Veldhuizen, Sioux Falls; sister, Heather Veltkamp, Dell Rapids; brother, Sean (Sarah) Ahlers, Rapid City; brother-in-law, Paul (Sanna) Heitritter, Ocheyedan, Iowa; two sisters-in-laws, Ashley (Justin) Allington and Jenna (Clayton) Hoogendoorn, all of Sioux Falls; nephews and nieces, Tate, Owen, Leo, Kinsley, Braxton, Declan, Torah, Trey, Talon, and Tryg; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
