From the Pulpit: Psalm 91
Everyday there is a surprise. The coronavirus seems to be driving our future, and we are just along for the ride. In this moment of chaos, let me remind you, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Heb. 13:8
I want to give you a Psalm to pray every day for you and your family. This promise is for today. This promise is for you.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust. Surely he will save you from the Fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” Psalm 91:1-7
This promise is for you and your family. A promise of protection and blessing and favor. Hide this in your heart, remember this in your quiet times. Speak this to your children. This promise is for today.
This prayer comes from a people who know their future is built on a foundation of Jesus Christ. “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”
I have two requests for you, every day this week.
1.) Begin each day with a moment of self-examination. Make sure you are “dwelling in the shelter of the Most High.”
2.) Read and pray Psalms 91 for you and those you love.
Due to space limitations, I could not put in the entire passage. I encourage you to find it, read it, memorize it. Towards the end we find an amazing promise.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him. I will protect him for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalm 91:14-15
