From the Pulpit: From my heart

By:
Pastor Kirk Strand, Brandon Valley Assembly of God

We are in unprecedented times. From my heart, as your pastor and as your friend, here is the simple plan I am going to use in the days ahead.

1.) Work on the relationship with my God, my spouse and my family. We are forced to slow down and connect. I choose to connect with intentionality, with purpose, and positivity. I can either bring poison and bitterness or hope and love.

As a child, we lived one long, cold and snowy winter in northern Minnesota. At one point, we had missed four weeks of school, groceries were delivered by a snowmobile. Yet that has evolved into a great memory of laughter, joy, and bonding. Our attitude during this time will color the memory forever. Get creative. For all who have ever said, “Not enough time,” this is a moment to Make a Difference.

2.) Be extremely intentional about sharing Jesus Christ and The Church online. Last summer, I sat in a national meeting of church leaders, the special guest was an executive from FACEBOOK. She spoke of the challenges and issues of the day. But then she spoke of the opportunities they can provide. The internet is not bound by distance, miles and time are irrelevant.

Matt. 24:1 “And this Gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

I can be part of the fulfillment of this prophecy simply by “sharing” thoughts, services, music and podcasts to my contacts. During this time, CHURCH will different, but it can still be powerful, life giving and very effective.

3.) Get back to the basics. When life gets crazy, make it simple. Choose to keep doing the practices of life. This is a time to stand strong in who you are and what you believe.

For me, I will continue to give my tithes and offering. I will continue to serve my wife and family. I will be faithful in my daily practices … I will still floss and brush my teeth.

A lesson I learned back in sports. When it gets hard, when my opponent is out of control. That is when I need to get back to the simple basics, because THE BASICS WORK.

We truly are in unique times. If we walk this path together and with purpose, we will emerge stronger in our families, our relationships, and our walk with the Lord.

God Bless. I am praying for you.
