Marvin Jastram, 89

Marvin LeRoy Jastram, 89, of Garretson, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at his home. Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Private family interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Garretson Fire Department.
Marvin was born June 13, 1937 in Hartford, S.D., to Wilhelm and Clara (Dugley) Jastram. He enlisted in the military in September of 1954 at the age of 17. During his service, he was awarded with Good Conduct, Marksman (M-1) and Marksman (Carbine). He served overseas for one year. He was honorably discharged in September 1957.
He married LouWonna Myre on Sept. 11, 1965. They lived together in Garretson. Together they had four children, Andrew Lee, David Allen, Jeannie JoAnne, and Mark William.
Marvin began work at Sioux Valley Energy in January of 1964 until November 1996. He was never one to sit still. Throughout his life he worked as an electrician, volunteer firefighter, and a one-time wedding planner. After retiring, he worked as a janitor at the Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson, retiring officially at the age of 88.
Marvin was particularly skilled at fixing and building things, always having a creative solution and the tool needed no matter how obscure. You could always guarantee Marvin to show up early to an event, with a strong “on time is late” belief.
Marvin is survived by one sister, Lorraine (Gary) Mears; his children, David (Jan) Jastram, Jeannie (Thomas) Dubbelde, and Mark Jastram; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amanda Jastram, Melissa (Matt) Christiansen and their children, Ember and Jaden, Cade Erck, Branden Jastram, Amber (Blayne) Dubbelde, Jenna Dubbelde, and Max Jastram; and brother-in-law, Robin Peterson and family.
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, LouWonna, his son, Andrew, two brothers and three sisters.
