Lynx crown two champs at home invitational

Brandon Valley wrestlers had a good day on the home mats Saturday, coming away from the heavily-competitive 19-team Dan Pansch/Jesse James Invitational with a third-place team finish and two individual champions.
“This has turned into one of the better tournaments in South Dakota with great competition from both A and B schools,” head coach Derek Outland said.
The Canton C-Hawks racked up 212 points to claim first, followed by Harrisburg (196), BV (153) and Huron (125.5), a team the Lynx defeated the night before.
BV had a dozen mat men place in the tournament. Rising to the top of their respective weight classes were freshman Isaac Klinkhammer (120 pounds) and senior Creighton Klinkhammer (145).
The younger Klinkhammer brother kept his 20-0 season record intact behind four victories on Saturday, two by pin and two by decision. Creighton improves his season mark to 16-3 by recording a pair of pins, a major decision and a decision at the Invite.
“Creighton and Isaac were both able to win the tournament, which was good to see,” Outland said.
Ten other Lynx grapplers also placed at the home invite.
“I felt that a number of our wrestlers made progress Saturday. We’ll go back to practice this week focused on improving further and preparing for future competition.”
A trio of Lynx nabbed third place. Tate Johnson (126), Damion Schunke (152) and Sam Krohnke (285). All three had one loss on the day.
Jack Smith (132) captured BV’s lone fourth place and Jorey Sorenson (160) was sixth. Five BV wrestlers finished in eighth place: Caleb Klatt (106), Carson Askdal (113), Dominic Tucker (160), Tyler Small (182) and Sam Lembcke (195).
The Lynx had openings in two weight classes, 138 and 170.
