Letter to the Editor - Bastian: Vote ‘yes’ on referendum to keep 5G cell tower away from kids

On Nov. 3, Brandon voters have the opportunity to keep a proposed 5G cell tower away from our schools and neighborhoods by voting YES on the referendum.

Brandon needs reliable cell service, strong emergency communication, and modern infrastructure. But supporting better service does not require accepting every proposed location – especially one so close to where our children learn and play.

The proposed 5G cell tower would sit in an established neighborhood at 108 West Park Street, directly across from Robert Bennis Elementary and near Brandon Valley Intermediate School. Families deserve thoughtful planning and meaningful consideration of alternative sites before infrastructure of this size is placed beside our schools, homes, and the places where children spend their days.

A YES vote overturns the rezoning and keeps the previous zoning in place, giving Brandon the chance to pursue a more appropriate site – one that improves service without placing a highly visible tower beside our schools and neighborhoods.

On Nov. 3, please vote YES on the referendum.
