Letter to the Editor - Aaker: A letter to the Republican Party

We are fiscally very conservative (a value of the old GOP) but socially responsible, believing that government should help people and protect the environment, rather than focusing only on financial gain. We try to be good neighbors to all and are willing to listen to all ideas.

We are very concerned about the attitude and the lack of morals in the Republican party. We see this as moral decay, and it goes right to the center of the party, President Donald J. Trump and other Republicans running for office.

President Trump has refused to release the Jeffrey Epstein files. In November of 2025, Trump after initially opposing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed this Act into law. However, Trump’s administration and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have faced widespread accusations from lawmakers, survivors, and bipartisan investigators of failing to fully release all the Epstein documents, and heavily redacting many that they did release. More that 1,200 children and young adults were abused. According to AI, President Donald Trump, his wife Melania, Mar-a-Lago, and related words or phrases appear over 38,000 times across the DOJ document release. Why is President Trump working so hard to hide the files?

Republican Ken Paxton is running for U.S. Senate in Texas. President Trump has endorsed this candidate and as of Oct. 7, has made three trips to Texas to rally for Paxton. The New York Times informed the American people a week ago that Ken Paxton, who is married, partied with his mistress in Dubai along with two indicted U.S. fugitives on New Year’s 2024. Do you want Ken Paxton to be writing and creating laws for you?

And just in the news, Vivek Ramaswamy who strongly supports President Trump and is running for Republican Governor of Ohio, released a disgusting ad, which the Cleveland Plain Dealer called “the most vile political ad in Ohio history.” The ad features the biological mother of his opponent, Dr. Amy Acton. The mother, who Acton has not spoken to or seen since 1978, says that Acton is a liar for saying she lived in a tent as a child. Acton and her brother were removed from her biological mother’s home when a grand jury indicted the woman’s second husband for raping Acton. Charles Hilu of the National Review wrote that court records do confirm Acton’s history, and that the family did spend a winter in Ohio living in a tent. Dr. Amy Acton’s brother replied to this ad by saying both of them had been abused, but that his sister, Dr. Amy Acton, got the worst of it as she tried to protect him. Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance strongly defended Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad saying that Republicans need to focus on winning elections. And what did President Trump say? He said, “I don’t know (about the ad).” Is this who you want representing you? He is not on the ballot but many Trump loyalists are.

President Donald J. Trump is morally bankrupt with rot at the very center. When you go to the election polls, consider who has supported Trump. Which of the candidates have spoken of releasing the Epstein files, which of the candidates have spoken of corruption and lack of morality in the Trump administration?

According to Fox News, U.S. Senator Mike Rounds, who is running for his seat again, has just recently removed Trump’s name and endorsement from his campaign website.

South Dakota’s Attorney General Marty Jackley, who is running for South Dakota’s U.S. Representative, is endorsed by President Trump and attended Trump’s midterm election convention where Trump had the attendees raise their right hands and repeat a loyalty and voting pledge after him, “I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United State that loves us so much he can’t even breathe” and “I don’t care if I’m registered or not. I’m going to try and cheat like hell like they do”.

In August, Trump gave his complete and total endorsement to Governor Larry Rhoden, and Rhoden supports Trump and has worked closely with his administration. Governor Rhoden has not made any public statements or comments regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Please consider thoughtfully as you vote in these midterms and vote for the candidates who share your morals and your values.
