A pair of ESD Conference road matches proved to be unkind territory for the Lady Lynx volleyball team last week. Brandon Valley lost to 3-0 to Yankton Oct. 3 and fell 3-1 to Pierre on Saturday.
Trailing 9-2 in the first set, the Lynx scored five straight points to get back in the match but were never able to get over the deficit en route to the 25-16 ending.
Despite trailing 4-0 early on in the second set, the Lynx built a 14-12 lead before the Gazelles reeled off five straight points and finished off the 25-18 set behind two of Cameryn Specht’s seven ace serves in the match.
Specht started off right where she finished the second, delivering a pair of ace serves. Down 14-11, the Lynx went on a 5-0 run. With the score at 24-21, the Lynx rallied to tie the set at 24-all before the Gazelles closed out the 26-24 match on a block by Specht and a BV hitting error.
Paige Timmons fired 13 kills at the Gazelles; Macyn Flaningan had three. Avery Myers was credited with 58 set assists. Ella Simonson picked up 13 digs and two ace serves; Timmons had seven digs and a solo block.
BV vs Pierre
The Lynx rallied to a 25-23 victory in the opening set against Pierre, and then came up short in the next three, 21-25, 18-25, 20-25.
Brooke Lunstra recorded four ace serves in the loss. Timmons and Megan Stettnichs posted 14 and six, kills, respectively. Myers had 77 assists. Simonson registered 20 digs and Timmons had eight. Flanigan had a hand on a trio of blocks.
