Jill's Journal: We asked, and you guessed!

If you attended the Brandon Expo on Saturday and took a moment to stop by the Brandon Valley Journal/Trader booth to say “hi,” inquire about or sign up for a subscription to your LOCAL newspaper or share ideas for stories and things you want to see in the Journal, I want to personally say, “Thank you.”

As for our “guess the number of words on the front page of this week’s Journal” contest, I can tell you I wasn’t the only one whose guess was absolutely and completely off the mark. I, of all folks. should have made a more educated guess than I did, but I failed to factor in the photos and the Journal masthead into my calculations.

The actual number of words totaled 1,427, and Amy Hieb’s guess of 1,500 words was the winning guess.

House hunting from the comforts of home

I’ve been a longtime House Hunters junkie.

I’ll even admit that my Alliance-supplied DVR is set to record HGTV’s popular home-finding show nightly at 9. 

I guess you could say that’s a true indication of my House Hunters habit.

While the original House Hunters is largely my guilty pleasure, I’ve been known to tune into the program’s sister shows, House Hunters International, Tiny House Hunters, House Hunters Renovation, and Beach Hunters.

What’s most amusing about my fetish for these house hunting and home renovation themed shows is that I don’t even own a home nor am I currently in the market for one. But, when I learned that House Hunters showed up in Brandon last month, I was curious enough to learn more about Casey and Lindsey Swenson’s televised house hunting experience.

I was excited to learn how their TV home search opportunity came about, the homes it took them to and the behind-the-scenes stuff. As you have read – or will read – house hunting House Hunters style is a daunting and exhausting task. But as Lindsey pointed out, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity they couldn’t pass up, and is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our community to be in the House Hunters spotlight.

As for me, with no plans for a move anytime soon, I’ll continue my nightly House Hunters guilty pleasure from the comforts of home.
