Hard to believe
Picture this: You’re the poorest, weakest, humblest little kid possible and the wealthiest person in the world adopts you and brings you into his family as one of his own. You’re officially connected and together you belong to each other. God not only brings you into His family, but as you grow up, He puts you in a position of responsibility and authority.
But then, we’re not talking about the wealthiest man in the world, we’re talking about the Creator of the entire universe. If you are a Christian, you belong to Him at a personal level as His child. God has given us something we can’t put a price on.
He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. Ephesians 1:7-8(NLT)
God, at His choice, showered us with His kindness, grace and forgiveness of our sins, but wait, there’s more – He throws in wisdom and understanding! What did we do to deserve such favor? Nothing, He brings us into His family because He wants to, for His pleasure!
A couple of months ago, my wife and I watched the movie, “Ben Hur.” At the start of the story, we find a high-ranking Jew, played by Charlton Heston who becomes a low Roman slave. He eventually finds favor with a great Roman general. The General takes Ben into his home and soon the high-ranking general adopts him as his only son.
That adoption entitled him to full honors as a Roman citizen. He went from the lowest slave in that society to almost royalty. He has responsibilities, authority and the power of the father who adopted him. What God does, is far beyond that in scope, and our relationship with God lasts for eternity.
…At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Ephesians 1:10(NLT)
God will bring to conclusion His plan as He brings all things under the authority of Jesus Christ. Jew and Gentile, black and white, rich and poor, young and old – everyone will bow before the Living God and only those who have received His Son as their Savior will be saved.
It’s hard to believe – but it’s true – the God of the universe wants a relationship with you! Though none of us are deserving, God wants to bring us into his family. Amazing, but true!
