Day 4: 2025 South Dakota State Amateur Baseball Tournament

Four more games. Four more teams advance in the Class B division of the 2025 South Dakota Amateur Baseball State Tournament.

Four Corners 8, LCW Dirt Devils 4

Four Corners, an intersection combining highways 14, 34, and 63 about 40 miles west of Pierre where a baseball diamond sits, lived up to their name on Saturday in the Class B opening round. Four Corners scored four times in the top of the first inning and went on to an 8-4 win over the LCW Dirt Devils.

The game winner came in the top of the third when Austin Hand hit a sacrifice fly to score Matt Lusk for a 5-1 lead. Lusk went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI in the win and had two doubles. Sam Hand also doubled twice and had 2 RBI. River Iverson 27 was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

While Four Corners pounded out 12 hits, pitcher Jack Van Camp 28 was dealing on the mound. Van Camp went the distance, threw 152 pitches and struck out 12 while giving up just five hits.

For LCW, Quentin Evers 21 was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Talen Eich 027 also had an RBI, going 1-for-4 from the plate.

Dylan Vosberg 12 picked up the loss on the mound for LCW. He lasted 1.1 innings, struck out two, but gave up five hits and four earned runs.

Next up for Four Corners is a second-round 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, Aug. 12 against the Platte Killer Tomatoes at First National Bank Field in Aspen Park, Brandon.

Platte Killer Tomatoes 12, Redfield Dairy Queen 3

The Platte Killer Tomatoes scored three times in the first and added three more in the second inning to cruise to a 12-3 win over Redfield Dairy Queen in the opening round of the Class B tournament on Saturday, Aug. 9 at First National Bank Field in Aspen Park, Brandon.

Grant Doom struck out 12 batters in just 5.2 innings as the Killer Tomatoes built a 7-1 lead. Dawson Hoffman came in on relief and struck out two with four hits and two earned runs for the save.

While Doom was holding Redfield batters in check, Platte was doing damage at the plate finishing with 12 hits led by Hunter Hewitt’s 3-for-5 effort. He finished with 3 RBI, as did Doom, who was 2-for-4 from the plate. Platte got things going early on a Hewitt single to make it 1-0 in the first. Preston Nedved scored Doom on a sacrifice fly and Platte scored on a bases loaded walk for the early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. 

Redfield finished with five hits, singles each from Camden Osborn, Bennett Osborn, Peyton Osborn, Cooper Hainy, and Nathan Hainy. 

Next up for Platte is a second-round 7:30 game on Monday, Aug. 12 against the Four Corners. 

Tabor Bluebirds 11, Wessington Springs Owls 1

The Tabor Bluebirds scored six times in the bottom of the sixth and defeated the Wessington Springs Owls 11-1 in a shortened six-inning game in the opening round of the Class B tournament on Saturday, Aug. 9 in Brandon.

The Bluebirds got on the board early and led 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Matt Brown singled to center field to score Joey Slama. Tabor poured it on there and scored three times in the bottom of the third and three more times in the bottom of the fourth for a commanding 7-0 lead.

Brown had a big day going 4-for-4 with 4 RBI that included a double in the sixth for a 10-1 lead. Hunter Hallock also had a big day, finishing with 3 RBI on a 2-for-3 effort.

Bryce Scieszinski pitched all seven innings for Tabor, striking out nine with just two walks in 91 pitches.

Wessington Springs finished with six hits with Blake Larson and Lucas VanEngelenburg both registering doubles. Larson led the team with two hits and an RBI.
