Twenty-four hours after Brandon Valley dropped a hard-fought loss on the home court to second-ranked Harrisburg, the Lynx faced another top-five team – Aberdeen Central – and this time came out on the winning side of the 63-60 outcome.
Coach Brent Deckert sums up the home victory as “a well-deserved win.”
“Aberdeen has an extremely talented team. At the beginning of the year they were the No. 1 ranked team in the state and returning four starters off of a second place team from last year,” he said. “We’ve had a crazy tough schedule of teams to play before Christmas break. It’s been a great learning experience for our team, especially with the youth and lack of varsity game experience returning. It’s been far from easy but it’s certainly been worth it.”
A trio of Lynx scored in double digits. For the third time this month, junior Evan Talcott led the squad with 23 points, with nearly half of his points coming from his 10-of-12 at the free throw line. Cade Terveer and Carter Olthoff complimented the effort with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Cole Siegfried tossed in seven and Max Wilde chipped in five.
Talcott had 10 of BV’s 37 total rebounds. Olthoff and Wilde each grabbed six and Terveer had three.
For Aberdeen Central, Cade Bergan put up 18 points, also producing the majority of his offense from the free throw line, where he connected on 10-of-15. Jonah Dohrer added 13 points. Collin Stoebner had nine and Nathan Rook scored eight.
Bergan and Stoebner were also beasts on the boards, each latching onto 10 of Central’s 37 total rebounds.
As a team, the Lynx had 10 assists (Olthoff, Talcott and Wilde each had three), six steals (Terveer picked off three) and 11 turnovers. Aberdeen had six assists, four steals, a pair of blocked shots and they turned the ball over 15 times.
