Bastian seeks Ward 3 council seat
Brett Bastian’s responses to the Journal’s Ward 3 candidate questions was inadvertently left out of the Oct. 21 issue.
A new City Hall has been an obvious need for a number of years. Do you support a new City Hall, and if so, why? Or why not?
When I was appointed to the Brandon City Council in 2018, the need for a new City Hall was already clear. That need remains as our community continues to grow.
Yes, I believe Brandon needs a new City Hall – one that provides a safe, secure, modern, and functional workplace for our administration, staff, and police department.
Our employees deserve a facility that supports the important work they do for our community every day. Our police department, in particular, needs updated space designed for safety, security, evidence handling, confidential interviews, and the demands of modern law enforcement.
Combining City Hall and the police department in one thoughtfully designed facility could make better use of space, improve coordination, and provide room for future growth. It could also give Brandon a professional, welcoming place to hold public meetings, work with developers and prospective business leaders, and serve residents who come to City Hall for assistance.
Of course, any such investment must be carefully planned, fiscally responsible, and transparent to the taxpayers who will ultimately support it.
Investing in a safe, updated facility is not about building something extravagant. It is about investing in the people who serve Brandon, the safety of our community, and the future we are building together.
Why should Ward 3 residents vote for you in the Nov. 3 election?
I am ready to serve Ward 3 by listening to residents, doing the homework, asking tough questions, and following through. I will provide responsible oversight, work respectfully with others, and make sure the voices and concerns of Ward 3 are heard at City Hall.
For me, this election is about service. It is about honoring the work of those who helped build the Brandon we enjoy today while accepting the responsibility to prepare our community for tomorrow.
