As the Lady Lynx golf team inches closer to the AA state meet in Watertown next month, they learned Monday they are capable of playing with nearly every team in the state, their coach, Todd Geerdes said.
The nine-team Warrior Invitational was played at nearby Willow Run. The O’Gorman Knights won the meet’s team title, followed by Aberdeen Central and Rapid City Stevens. Brandon Valley was sixth.
“The girls started off a little rough on the back nine at Willow Run,” Geerdes said. “I was very proud that they ground it out to finish with a team score of 361. It would have been easy to quit after a slow start, but again, we found out today that we are capable of playing with nearly every team in the state.”
BV’s best finish came from senior Julia Andresen, who carded an 80 to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place.
Junior Tanna Lehfeldt was 26th in the 56-golfer event behind her 18-hole effort 90, and Jessica Krogman posted a 95 for 31st place.
Jenna Long’s 96 capped off the team tally. Long finished in a three-way for 32nd place. Teammates Kate Livingston and Abbey Jacobsen both carded 111 to tie for 51st.
Stevens’ Taylor Wit and O’G’s Shannon McCormick tied for medalist honors, both posting 7-over-par 77s.
