Adult ticket prices going up for state track meet, musical events

PIERRE — The board of directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association raised adult ticket prices for some events when it met for its July meeting.  

The cost of an adult tournament pass at the state track meet went from $35 to $40. According to SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos, the association’s other three-day events like the state wrestling tournament and state basketball tournaments, charge adults $50 and students $30 for tournament passes. The price for an adult tournament pass will continue to go up until the state track meet’s ticket prices are in line with the other events.  

The cost of a student state track meet tournament pass stayed at $25.  

All-State Chorus and Orchestra reserved seat tickets rose from $20 to $25. Adult general tickets rose from $15 to $20. Student general tickets stayed at $10. The last ticket price change for that event was $1 in 2019. 

All-State Band adult tickets went from $15 to $20. Student ticket prices stayed at $10. The last ticket price change was in 2012-2013.

All-State Band/Show Choir adult tickets went from $15 to $20. Student ticket prices stayed at $10. The last ticket price increase was in 2016. 

Swartos noted for the board that in the 2025-26 school year the association absorbed credit card fees of $48,327 at state events. At some venues there are also box office fees that the association pays.
