Nominations sought for BV Hall of Fame

Nominations for 2023 induction into the Brandon Valley Athletic Hall of Fame are being accepted through Dec. 19. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the BVHS website under the Booster Club tab, email Bob Logan at lynxlogan@hotmail.com or call (605) 261-1308 or Bill Freking at bill.freking@k12.sd.us.

The 2023 Hall of Fame Banquet is set for Saturday, March 25 at Holiday Inn Express in Brandon.

 

Final leaf drop-off day is Nov. 19

The City of Brandon is sponsoring its 2022 Free Leaf Drop-Off Days on Saturdays, Nov. 5 and 19.
Bags and cans of leaves and leaf mulch should be brought to the McHardy Park parking lot between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and dump them into a garbage truck furnished by Marv’s Sanitary Service. Only leaves, mulch, pumpkins, veggies and garden items can be accepted. Leaves must be in cans or bags. No branches, loose leaves or tarps will be accepted. 

This service is paid for the City of Brandon.

 

Valley Springs Legion Feather Party on tap for Nov. 19

Valley Springs America Legion’s annual Feather Party is set for Saturday, Nov. 19. The Auxiliary will serve food ala cart starting at 5 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6 p.m. or when there is enough players. Bingo prizes include a 10-12-pound turkey or four-pound ham. Bingo cards are 25 cents per game.

 

U.S. Navy time is topic of Military History Program 

Roger VanOort will present a program on his experiences with the U.S. Navy time in the Vietnam War at the Sunday, Nov. 20 Military History program. The 6:30 p.m. program will be held at the Charles R. Doman American Legion Post 131 in Valley Springs. 

As always, this event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

 

November list needs at the Brandon Food Pantry

This month’s needs at the Brandon Food Pantry are cereal, granola bars, instant oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, mustard, ketchup, relish, mayonnaise, pickles, BBQ sauce, oatmeal, body wash, dish soap, Styrofoam plates (40 count) and dog and cat food.

Pantry clients must be vaccinated and wear a mask to shop the Pantry. If not vaccinated, clients will receive items that have been pre-bagged by BAFP volunteers.

To make appointments for pickups or donations, call 582-7001. The BAFP is open 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
