Supe's On: Key to summer reading is to keep it fun, engaging

Summer recreational learning activities are an excellent way to keep kids engaged and learning while out of the classroom during summer break. Whether it is leisure summer reading, participating in scheduled activities through the various community rec programs, or just playing educational games at home, families can support and enhance their child’s educational growth during the summer break through recreational learning activities.

Further, there are a tremendous number of outdoor exploration opportunities in our area to enjoy. State and local parks provide great opportunities to incorporate the outdoors and physical fitness into summer learning activities. A nature walk through the Big Sioux Recreation Area can quickly turn into an engaging science lesson through plant and animal identification. Or, if rest and relaxation is on the top of your summer priority list, grab a book from the Siouxland Library, enjoy a leisurely summer read, and participate in the Siouxland Libraries Summer Reading Program for an opportunity to earn incentives and win prizes.
