Senior Spotlight: Emily Hensley

Emily Hensley was born to be a leader.
And that’s reflected in this 2020 Brandon Valley High senior’s endeavors and future career plans.
As a BV Lynx, Emily has been highly involved in Students Against Destructive Decisions & Teens Against Tobacco Use (SADD/TATU), as a drum major for the Marching Lynx, choir and theatre.
Outside the walls of BVHS, she took on the chairwoman role of LYNXathon, a dance marathon event in partnership with the Children’s miracle Network and Sanford’s Castle of Care.
“Every penny goes towards sick and critically-injured kids right within our community,” Emily said.
Emily’s future ambition is to pursue a career in law, and plans to attend the University of South Dakota for history and political science.
Fueling her passion to lead and make a difference is Malala Yousafzai, an activist on a woman’s right to education.
“She’s defied every odd, and rather than let those obstacles crush her, she’s used them to her advantage to create a positive outlook. I think every girl on this Earth should have the right to an education, and this is something Malala has stood firmly on,” she believes.
Emily enjoys the music of the legendary band, Fleetwood Mac.
A standout memory of high school was performing at the U.S. Bank and Lucas Oil Stadium with the Marching Lynx and spending a week in New York City with the theatre group.
She is the daughter of Mark and Kristi Hensley.
