Joyce Marie Schultz was born June 8, 1938 in Tracy, Minn., to Harry and Leona (Schrupp) Schultz. She was baptized June 26, 1938 by Rev. E. R. Gamm and confirmed June 28, 1953, both at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tracy. She graduated in 1956 from Marshall (Minn.) High School and then worked at Lyco Gas Co., also in Marshall. It was during this time that Joyce first spied her future husband, Lyle, at the Blue Moon Ballroom in Marshall, telling her friend that was the man she was going to marry.

On Aug. 2, 1959, Joyce was united in marriage to Lyle Allen Meier at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple lived in Marshall, where a son Robert John, was born. They next moved to Westbrook, Minn., for Lyle’s work at Solar Gas Co., and daughter, Jill Renee, was born. The family moved next to LeSeuer, Minn., again for Lyle’s work where Joyce was a homemaker. In March 1966, they moved to St. James, Minn., where she resided until her death. Joyce continued to be a stay-at-home mother until 1974, at which time she went to work at Scherr-Tumico. She also worked at Tony Downs Food Co. in Madelia, Minn., for a short time before returning to Scherr-Tumico, where she retired from in 1998 after more than 20 years.

Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1914 Auxiliary, in which she held office and volunteered in various capacities.

Joyce enjoyed family fishing trips, playing cards, especially Pinochle, trips to Branson, Mo., gardening and canning, doing puzzles on the computer, cheering on the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Gophers from the comforts of her recliner, and spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by a son, Robert and his wife, Christine Meier, of New Ulm, Minn.; a daughter, Jill Meier, of Brandon; grandsons, Travus Meier (Lindsae Braun), of New Ulm, Benjamin Meier (Ashley Williams), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Timothy (Ashley) Meier, of New Ulm; great-grandchildren, Carter, Makena and Karly Meier, Jonathan Meier, and Connor and Cameron Meier, all of New Ulm; siblings, Darlene Gladitsch, of Marshall, Minn., Betty (Frank) Moon, of Hayfield, Minn., Kenneth (Mavis) Schultz, of Marshall, and David (Sheryl) Schultz, Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Doris Meier, Vesta, Minn., and Karen (Ernie) Bohnet, Parker, Colo.; special friends, Carol Sandberg, Enie Curry and Mary Lopahs, all of St. James; and a host of relatives and friends.
